Throughout Term 1 the students in the middle years have demonstrated outstanding achievement and performance in all areas of school life. This was acknowledged and celebrated in our year level assemblies. These achievements and performances included awards presented to students who have demonstrated our school values in one or more ways, the acknowledgement of year 9 students who have been successful in attending a leadership camp and students who are representing Buckley Park in our student forum in our lead work in Respectful Relationships.
Our Year 7 students have made a smooth transition into Buckley Park which has been pleasing. The students and their families attended the Year 7 BBQ and were given an opportunity to mingle with each other and teachers. The students have also been active participants and embraced our Peer Support Program run by our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders. Students have participated in 3 sessions focusing on getting to one another, the meaning of gratitude and regulation of emotions. Last week, Year 7 students were also involved in a program which involved our VCAL students teaching our Year 7 students a skill through workshops selected by the students.
The Year 8 students have also successfully transitioned in Year 8 and this was demonstrated by the number of students who were nominated for values and positive awards in preparation for our assembly. The number of nominations was exceptional. The students are now beginning to focus on organising and preparing themselves to attend in the Year 8 camp to Tasmania in Week 3 of Term 2.
Year 9 students this term attended the Year 9 Camp in Wonga Park. This camp enabled students to be pushed outside their comfort zone, sleep in tents and participate in a number activities including kayaking, caving, river sledding, bush survival and a hike in the Warrandyte State Park. All students were exceptional in their efforts and approach to all these challenging activities. Thank you to all the staff and students who made this such a fantastic experience for all.
Term 2 for Middle Years students will involve; the Year 7 excursion, the continuation of the Peer Support Program run by our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders, the athletics carnival, Year 7 camp to Marysville, Year 8 camp to Tasmania and the Take a Stand project for Year 9 students.
