Child Safe Culture

Buckley Park College is proudly a 'Child Safe' environment. Every adult who accesses our school is subject to a rigorous Child Safe Code of Conduct.

The safety of our students is our absolute priority.

The Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry’s Betrayal of Trust report (2013) made fifteen recommendations aimed at protecting children from all forms of abuse and neglect.

The Government committed to implementing these recommendations, focusing on:

Criminal law reform – ‘failure to protect’, ‘failure to disclose’ and ‘grooming’
Civil law reform – redress for survivors
Child safe organisations – child safe standards Buckley Park College is a Child Safe organisation.

The Victorian DET and VRQA Define the Child Safe Standards

1.Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety, including through effective leadership arrangements

2.A child safe policy or statement of commitment to child safety

3.A code of conduct that establishes clear expectations for appropriate behaviour with children

4.Screening, supervision, training and other human resources practices that reduce the risk of child abuse by new and existing personnel

5.Processes for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse

6.Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risks of child abuse

7.Strategies to promote the participation and empowerment of children

Principle of inclusion: The needs of all students should be considered when addressing these standards, in particular for students with disabilities, and those from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
