Year 9 Woodwork
Students must design and build a bridge using only 12mm x 12mm pine and 25mm B/H nails. It can ONLY have two timber lengths that span the required distance. The REST must be NO LONGER than 170mm.
It must be both aesthetically beautiful, and as strong as possible.
Students then vote to decide the best looking bridge, and load it with 5kg weights to see which is the strongest.
The bridges are then evaluated, re-designed on ‘Tinkercad’, and the ‘new, improved model bridges’ are 3D printed.
