The beginning of March saw Unit 3/4 Legal Studies students take part in a much-anticipated excursion to the County Court of Victoria in Melbourne, accompanied by Ms Coppini and Mr Faci. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to see our learning in action in the live setting of a courtroom. Students were fortunate to attend a dedicated session with Her Honour Judge Robyn Harper, as well as have front-row seats to the opening address of a criminal trial and observe a witness take the stand.
Students were also given insights into pathways into the legal profession and a sneak peek at the process of jury empanelment. The day concluded with a quiet wander through the Supreme Court Library, where students gained an appreciation of the depth of legal volumes that support the concept of precedent, making our textbook look like a piece of cake in comparison!
We were extremely proud of this group of students for their conduct and their passion for the law, which was evident through their thoughtful questions and high level of engagement. The judge and court staff were extremely complimentary of the students’ conduct, enthusiasm, and the insightful questions they asked throughout the visit. We are confident that the excursion will bring a great burst of energy for the students just in time for their SAC!
