Our dedicated staff have begun the professional learning and implementation journey to embed the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0). All Victorian schools will progressively implement this evidence-based teaching and learning model, with full implementation expected by 2028.

A core principle of this model is that student wellbeing is given equal importance to teaching and learning. At Buckley Park College, we recognise that when students and staff are not well, learning outcomes are impacted. Supporting wellbeing is therefore fundamental to ensuring students are able to engage and succeed in their learning.
Throughout Term 1, we have focused on establishing Safe and Orderly Routines in our classrooms. This includes consistent and predictable entry and exit routines across all learning spaces. These routines help students know what to expect when they arrive to class and support staff to create calm, focused and effective learning environments.

We have been very impressed with the way our students have adapted to these changes. One key shift has been starting lessons without computers. We believe that when teachers are providing direct and explicit instruction, students need to be fully focused and free from distractions. For this reason, lessons at Buckley Park College now begin without devices.
Technology remains an important part of learning; however, we believe it should be used purposefully and with clear intent. By prioritising handwriting, discussion, and critical thinking at the beginning of lessons, we aim to support deeper thinking and stronger cognitive engagement. These skills are essential in preparing students for future study and vocational pathways.
We acknowledge that this change has been challenging for some students, and we appreciate the way many have embraced this new approach.
We encourage parents and carers to support this initiative by reinforcing these expectations and the importance of focused learning habits at home.
We look forward to continuing our Safe & Orderly Routine implementation journey with our school community and will continue to share updates along the way.
