Welcome from our new Principal Tegan Knuckey

As we settle into the year, I have taken time to reflect on something both simple and powerful: kindness. Kindness is one of our Buckley Park College values, and in a school community it is never a “soft” add-on. Rather, it is the foundation that makes learning, safety and belonging possible.

Margaret Mead famously said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” In schools, I’d argue it is even simpler than that. Everyday actions, repeated consistently by many people, shape the culture our young people experience. A calm word, a clear boundary, a respectful interaction - these are not small moments; they are the moments that define who we are and who we are becoming.

Late last year, the Department of Education reaffirmed behaviour expectations that emphasise respect, responsibility and safety for all. These expectations apply across our whole community. Every member of our community - staff, families and visitors - has a responsibility to model respectful, orderly and safe behaviour, particularly in moments of challenge or disagreement. When expectations are clear, fair and consistently upheld, schools become places where students feel secure, supported and ready to learn.

As the saying goes, “A school becomes what the people in it repeatedly do.” The way we speak to one another, the standards we uphold, and how we respond when things are difficult all shape the culture we are intentionally building together.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank everyone in our community for the warmth and generosity with which I have been welcomed. It has been a wonderful start to the year, and I am deeply appreciative of the professionalism, care and goodwill I see each day. I look forward to continuing this work together - not simply maintaining what already exists, but strengthening a school culture that reflects our values and ensures every young person feels safe, respected and supported to thrive.

Uniform Reminder

A timely reminder about our mandatory Uniform policy which starts from January 2026

Uniform Guidance

Shoes must be full black, leather:

These style of shoes are accepted

We do not allow black fabric shoes:

This style of shoe is not allowed

The Department of Education has enforced a policy change where uniform items such as track pants / shorts should not have any logos on them. This allows parents to source plain, non-branded, cheaper items for students to wear.

This means that these items should be NON-BRANDED. No Elite Eleven, Nike, Adidas etc.

We will not accept black tape being placed over an brand. This is not a good look, and students will be given a uniform breach for this.

We strongly encourage families to source good-quality, plain black, non-branded track bottoms / shorts from the Uniform Shop with the rest of the uniform items for convenience.

All students in year 7 will be required to purchase the new uniform. Unfortunately, we cannot accept 'second-hand' items where the item has been replaced by a new item. For example, the summer dress, jumber, skirt, PE jumper. White polo shirts are fine as these have not changed.

Immunisations for Year 7 & 10 Students in 2026

Year 7 & 10 Students have the opportunity to access Moonee Valley City Council Vaccination school program, Tuesday 31st March, 2026. More information and booking links in this article.

Vaccination is one of the most successful and cost-effective public health measures worldwide. It remains one of the most effective ways to protect people from many serious infectious diseases.

Did you know: over the past 50 years, childhood vaccines have prevented 154 million deaths globally, the vast majority in children under five.

Australia’s health leaders have reaffirmed that vaccines used in Australia are safe, effective and backed by multiple large, high-quality studies involving millions of children over several decades. Extensive research shows no link between vaccines and autism, and our rigorous TGA safety systems continue to monitor vaccines closely.

Maintaining strong community confidence in the vaccines that keep people safe, and ensuring access to accurate and reliable information, is more important than ever.

MVCC Safety Around Schools - Guidance for Parents/Carers

It is important as we get back into the swing of school life to remind everyone of the importance of safe driving and parking in the vicinity of the school when dropping off and picking up students. As student safety is our priority, avoiding dangerous situations as students cross roads going to and from school is paramount.

The following is of particular concern to the school:

  • Please avoid dropping off and picking up in the protected zone at the school crossing. As per the signage in the area, it is illegal to stop (even momentarily) when the flags are displayed. .
  • Please avoid double parking in Nimmo Street when dropping off and picking up students.
  • Please avoid using the driveway on Nimmo street as a drop off point as this causes a back-up of traffic and students use this as a walkway.
  • In the council car park on the north side of the school, cars must only be stationary in a marked car space - not in the driveways that go in and out.
  • Please avoid parking on the nature strip in Spencer Street.

Our advice is to arrange a drop off/pick up location a block or more away from the school to avoid congestion and keep the dangers of traffic to a minimum.

It is also important at this time to revisit conversations around road safety with your children to ensure that they are working to keep themselves safe while we all work together to keep them safe.
